6/30—Baker named to LA Daily News All-Area Second Team
Caitlin Baker was named to the second team for the 2010 LA Daily News All-Area Girls Swimming & Diving Team. Swimmers and divers that received this recognition came from the Santa Clarita Valley, San Fernando Valley and portions of Ventura County.
June 14—Morsch and Baker earn 2010 All-Santa Clarita Valley Swim Teams Recognition
Jonathan Morsch and Caitlin Baker won 2010 All-Santa Clarita Valley Swim Team Recognition representing the Saugus High Swim Team.Jonathan was the only male freshman receiving the recognition.He received the All-Santa Clarita Valley award for his high finishes in individual events at the League Finals and also for qualifying for the CIF-SS Division 1 meet in the 100 Butterfly.
Caitlin was one of two female freshman to receive the honor.She was recognized for her second place finish in the Breast Stroke at the League Finals and also for qualifying for the 100 Breastroke in the CIF-SS Division 1 meet. At this meet she competed in the Finals forthe event and finished 14th overall.
Congratulations to Jonathan and Caitlin for a great swim year and the recognition of being named to the 2010 All-Santa Clarita Valley Swim Team.

May 19—Baker takes 11th in Breastroke at Masters Meet
Caitlin Baker, who was seeded 21st, finished 11th in the 100 Breastroke at the 2010 CIF Southern Section Masters Tournament held in Long Beach on 5/18. Caitlin swam the distance in a personal best time of 1:06:63.
To qualify for the Masters Meet, the top two finishers from each CIF Southern Section Division finals are granted automatic entry. The next best times are included until a total of 16 times is reached. With this formula, each event has three heats of eight swimmers.
May 17—Baker Invited to CIF Southern Section Masters Tournament
Caitlin Baker has been invited to participate in the 2010 CIF Southern Section Masters Tournament being held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. The top 26 swimmers from the CIF Finals Meet for all four CIF Divisions are competing in the Masters Meet. Caitlin is ranked 21st overall from the CIF Finals in the 100 Breastroke and will compete in that event.
May 15—Saugus Girls Finishes 37th in CIF. Baker Finishes 14th in 100 Breastroke.
Caitlin Baker finished 14th in the Girls 100 Breastroke at the Southern Section Division I CIF Finals in Long Beach. Her time of 1:07:17 placed her 6th in the Consolation Finals and 14th overall. As a team, Saugus Girls finished 37th overall in the meet that was completed Friday night.
May 14—Katelyn Waschak Competes in CIF Diving Finals
Katelyn Waschak competed in the CIF Southern Section Division I Diving Finals on Thursday, 5/13. Katelyn scored 134.75 points that placed her 22nd out of 33 Division I participants. A great first year of diving for Katelyn!
May 12—Saugus Swim Team Participates in Southern Section Division I CIF Swim Prelims at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. Baker Qualifies for Finals in Breaststroke.
The Saugus Swim Team had five swimmers competing in the Southern Section Division I CIF Prelims Swim Championships at the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. The participants from Saugus were:

In the words of the great Shakespeare…

There are no words that can verbalize to you how appreciative, grateful and lucky I am to have the parents on this team! Thank you to everyone that helped make my vision for League Prelims & Finals last week come to fruition. I cannot begin to tell you how many compliments we got and I’m still getting on how great that meet was run. We have definitely set the new standard for League Prelims & Finals. I wanted it to be about the kids and for the kids and YOU all made that happen. Thank you to everyone that came early to setup and stayed late to tear down on Tuesday and Thursday, you are all amazing and I would have been lost without you. Thank you to everyone that made the meet a success! Thank you for making the Coaching Staff, the swimmers, the parents, Saugus Swimming/Diving and Saugus High look so great!! Congratulations to you all!!
I’d also like to send a HUGE thank you to my Meet Director, Sheri Baker. There are not enough thank you’s in this world to say how much I appreciate what you did. Thank you SO much for making it all happen and making it a huge success! I would have been lost without you Sheri, thank you for taking my vision and making it happen. THANK YOU!!
I also want to send a shout out to ALL of my swimmers and diver that competed Tuesday-Thursday; you all did an AMAZING job!! I saw swimmers and my diver do things that I knew they had in them and I think you all final really just believed in yourselves and made it happen. The coaching staff was amazed with all of your races and you all stepped it up a level that we had yet to see! You have really set an example for this team in the years to come…so CONGRATS to all of you!!

May 9—Saugus Swim/Dive Team Sending Nine Swimmers/Diver to Southern Section Division I CIF Swim/Dive Championship at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach
The Saugus Swim/Dive Team has qualified nine swimmers to compete in the Southern Section Division I CIF Swim/Dive Championships at the Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach. The Prelims will start on Wednesday, 5/12 with the Finals scheduled for the same pool on Friday, 5/14. The participants from Saugus are:
Boys 200 yard Freestyle Relay Varsity—Jonathan Morsch, Justin Peris, Ian Cook, Luke Rowley (alternates)
Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke Varsity—Caitlin Baker

May 7 Update—Saugus Swim/Dive CIF Southern Section Division I Automatic/Consideration Qualifiers
Due to an extraordinary performance by members of the Saugus Swim/Dive Team at the Foothill League Finals, the number of Automatic/Consideration Saugus swimmers for CIF has increased dramatically:

May 6—Katie Waschak Captures Third Place in Foothill League Diving Championships
Katie Waschak accumulated 332.20 points good for third place in the Foothill Diving Championships held on May 5th at the SCAC. The scores for her mandatory eleven dives were based on height, grace, form, distance from the board and execution, with the highest and lowest marks thrown out. The remaining scores are then combined and multiplied by the attempted dive’s degree of difficulty. Katie had previously earned an Automatic CIF qualifying time at the Division I CIF Diving Championships to be held next week.
May 4—Luke Rowley gets CIF Consideration Time
At the Foothill League Preliminary Events held yesterday at SCAC, Luke Rowley finished third in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 49.61. This time earned Luke a CIF-Southern Section Division I Consideration Time for the event.Way to go, Luke!
April 20—Team Diving Record Shattered
Katelyn Waschak set a new Saugus Team Diving record at the 3rd Annual Cannonball Classic Diving Invitational at Oaks Christian High School on Saturday, April 17th. Her Diving score of 329 points broke the old record of 229.57 points set by Alison Retig in 2006. In addition, with the 329 score Katelyn qualified for CIF. It was an outstanding performance by the Saugus Diving Team—Katelyn Waschak!!
