REMINDERS FROM COACH VICKY
Girls Tye-Dye Party
The SHS Swim/Dive Girls Tye-Dye Party is scheduled for Friday, January 27th from 7:00 – 11:00 pm @ Sydnee Rabjohn’s house: 27533 Catala Ave., Saugus, 91350. Please bring $10 towards pizza and snacks. Also bring your own tee shirt to Tye-Dye. GIRLS ONLY!!
Team Pasta Party
The SHS Swim/Dive Team Pasta Feed is Sunday, January 29th at 12:30pm @ Northbridge Clubhouse. Unfortunately the local pool will not be available for the party.
Physicals
All forms are due to Coach Vicky by Tuesday, January 31st. These forms are available under the Downloads section of the web site.
Final Payment
Final payments for your spirit packs are due to Coach Vicky by January 31st. If you need to know your balance, email Coach Vicky and she will email the balance back to you.

Each family needs to bring a six-pack of soda, Gatorade or water. If you want to bring more that one item that is even better! Tables for the food, plates, napkins and utensils will be provided.

Your swimmer/diver needs to be picked up within 15 minutes after practice. If you need to find a carpool, please email Silvie Faust at silfaust@sbcglobal.net.

If you do not have a current physical on file with the school, you need to get your physicals done ASAP. All physical forms can be found on our website under the “Downloads” tab. Please turn in the following four items to Coach Vicky by January 31st:
1. Athletic Clearance Form
2. Athletic District Emergency Form
3. Athletic Medical History Form
4. Certificate of Physical Examination Form.
If you need help finding a place to get your physicals done, Lori Cruit has some “no appointments needed”, speedy places to go to. Please contact Lori at lori@loricruit.com.

DELIVERY OF SPIRIT PACK ITEMS
Swimworks is close to getting me all of your spirit pack items, I am aiming for delivery during the first two weeks of February.
SWIMWORKS
Please make sure that you have everything you need for practice. Have a swim suit (appropriate for competitive swimming), cap, goggles and your own equipment. If you need to purchase any items, please go to our team outfitter Swimworks, tell them you swim for Saugus High School, and you will get a 20% discount. TIP: I highly suggest purchasing a suit that is made of 80% or more polyester. These suits will last all season and a lot longer than a regular lycra suit.

GO CENTURIONS!!
FUNDRAISER—CARDIOGIRL FITNESS CERTIFICATES CardioGirl Fitness has provided SHS Swim Team with gift cards that can be used for a team fundraiser. The details are:
Each gift card cost $99.00 and includes
Two full months of full access membership at CardioGirl Fitness
(a $99 value).
One cardio FIT training session ($50 value).
One cardio TRXtreme class ($35 value)
One cardio MIX class ($15 value)
Total savings for the package is $100. For each gift card sold by SHS fundraiser, CardioGirl will donate $40 to the swim team.
Cyndi Vanderhorst, Fundraising Committee Chairwoman, will be at Saugus High School during lunch outside the front office with the gift cards next MONDAY, 12/19 and TUESDAY, 12/20. There is not any obligation for the gift cards and if you can’t sell any, then just turn them back in.

   WEITZEIL GETS NATIONAL TIME
Abbey Weitzeil, swimming in the USA Swimming Winter Nationals on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, GA, obtained a National cut time in the 50 Free during a time trial at the meet.

GOOD JOB ABBEY!
Sign Up for Saugus Swim & Dive Team Text Messages through Twitter! Now there is a less invasive way to receive up to the second updates on our team through texts. We now will use Twitter to relay messages quickly to the team.
The advantages of using Twitter is that:
1) you don't need to open an account to receive messages from us
2) you don't need a smart phone to use it
3) it is a one way communication blast from the coaches to the team.
We encourage all parents, swimmers and divers to sign up for our tweets.
Here's how to follow us:
1) On your cell phone, text "follow saugusswimdive" (no quotes) to 40404.
2) You will receive a confirmation message (a tweet) back from Twitter that you are now following saugusswimdive (Saugus Swimming and Diving). You may also receive tweets that are older ones, but that is a one time thing on sign up.
If you have a smart phone and not a dumb phone, you can download the Twitter App for free and start to follow the team @saugusswimdive. In order to get text message updates through the App, you will have to set your Twitter App to alert you every time saugusswimdive tweets you.
Of course you can also recieve messages from us by using your computer and signing on Twitter. Our website will have all relevant news but texting will provide real time updates on changes.

KATY SONKSEN TO ATTEND UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS
Katy Sonksen has verbally committed to attend and swim for the University of Indianapolis beginning the fall of 2012. Katy had a tremendous 2011 season swimming for Saugus High. Among her accomplishments were:
Qualified for CIF in three events—200 Free/500 Free/400 Free
Relay
Member of 400 Free Relay team that set the SHS school record
Qualified for CIF Finals in 500 Free Relay event and finished
13th overall.
Named to the LA Daily News All-Area Swim Second Team

GOOD LUCK KATY!
2012 SWIM ROSTER Coach Vicky has completed tryouts and the 2012 JV and Varsity rosters have been announced. A complete listing is shown on the “Rosters” link in this web site.
Coach Vicky wants all swimmers to get in the water starting right now. SHS Swim Team promises to be very strong this year, so the earlier you start training, the better your results will be in the spring. Your options are to join one of the City programs—stroke classes, lap swim, masters—or join the Canyons Aquatic Club.
The SHS Swim Team finished on a high note last year with 15 swimmers qualifying for League Finals, 6 qualifying for CIF, 3 competing in the CIF Finals and the Girls Team was ranked #8 in the region by the LA Daily News. Also 1 relay and 4 individual school records were set during competition in 2011. The 2012 SHS swim team promises to be stronger than last year with the potential to compete at all levels in 2012.
